Chitralekha’s magic allowed her to transport Aniruddha to Usha’s side, where their love blossomed.

But Banasura, upon discovering their secret liaison, imprisoned Aniruddha. The stage was set for a cosmic clash—a war between the followers of Lord Krishna (the Haris) and those of Lord Shiva (the Hars). Rivers of blood flowed, and the city earned its name: Tezpur, the City of Blood.

The Divine Intervention

As the battle raged, Lord Brahma intervened, urging both Krishna and Shiva to cease their feud. A dialogue ensued, and Krishna convinced Shiva that Banasura’s actions were unjust. Banasura, a devout Shiva devotee, had even dared to appoint Lord Shiva’s family as gatekeepers of Tezpur.
Shiva relented, and Banasura agreed to Usha and Aniruddha’s union. The stone sculptures on Agnigarh’s hill narrate this epic saga—a fusion of love, war, and divine intervention.
