But the 26-year-old took this challenge and changed it into an opportunity, becoming the first woman amputee to climb Mount Everest. She joined Eco Everest Expedition group in the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation-run training camp in Uttarkashi and trained under ace mountaineer Bachendri Pal. And 52 days of struggle and hard work, Arunima conquered her dream on 21st May 2013. “When I was undergoing treatment at AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) for four months, I could not do anything on my own. But then one day I decided to climb the Everest,” she says. When most of us give up on life after the little obstacles we face everyday, Arunima is a great inspiration, standing tall against all odds and refusing to let her spirit be conquered.
