On 20th September, 2025, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), North Tripura organized a vital Legal Awareness Programme at Uttar Deochorra Gram Panchayat under Panisagar RD Block. The programme focused on NALSA (Legal services to the victims of drug abuse and the eradication of the drug menace) scheme 2015, aiming to educate the public about the legal rights of drug abuse victims and to raise awareness about the growing dangers of drug addiction in the region.
The event saw participation from local community members, Panchayat officials, and youth representatives, reflecting a collective interest in combating the drug problem through legal and community-based approaches.
Resource Person Advocate Rajarshi Debnath delivered an insightful address, shedding light on the provisions of legal aid available to victims of drug abuse. He emphasized the importance of early intervention, community vigilance, and the role of the judiciary and police in tackling this issue. Advocate Debnath also highlighted various legal schemes and government initiatives aimed at supporting rehabilitation and reintegration of victims into society.
Para Legal Volunteer, Smt Pratima Sarma, played a key role in engaging with the audience and simplifying complex legal terminologies for better understanding. She also guided the attendees on how to approach legal services and where to seek help in cases related to drug abuse.
This programme forms a crucial part of DLSA’s broader initiative to bring legal awareness to rural and semi-urban populations. By promoting legal literacy and empowering communities, such initiatives play an essential role in the long-term fight against substance abuse.
