The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) was observed with great enthusiasm and purpose across North Tripura, marked by two impactful programmes held at Bagbasa Gram Panchayat under Jubarajnagar RD Block and at North Ganganagar GP. The events were organised respectively by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), North Tripura, Dharmanagar, and the Sub Divisional Legal Services Committee (SDLSC), Dharmanagar. Both programmes aimed to promote awareness, inclusion, and empowerment of persons with disabilities, highlighting the importance of equal rights and accessibility for all.
Sri Rajarshi Chakraborty, District Secretary of DLSA, North Tripura, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized the need for a more inclusive society where persons with disabilities are given opportunities, dignity, and support to lead independent and fulfilling lives. He underlined the crucial role of legal awareness in ensuring rights and protections guaranteed under various laws and welfare schemes.
The sessions were further enriched by insightful discussions led by the Resource Persons, Advocate Qual Singa Choudhury and Advocate Ramendra Debnath. They highlighted key legal provisions, government benefits, and the mechanisms available for persons with disabilities to seek justice and assistance. Their interaction with participants helped clarify essential issues related to accessibility, rights, and social support systems.
The Para Legal Volunteers, Smt. Pratima Nath (DLSA) and Sri Chiranjit Malakar (SDLSC), coordinated and organised both programmes and the community members, local representatives, and beneficiaries actively participated in the programmes, making the observance meaningful and informative. The events successfully echoed the global message of IDPD, promoting understanding, encouraging action, and fostering a society where every individual is valued regardless of ability.
