On 12th September, 2025, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), North Tripura, took an important step towards promoting legal awareness by organizing a dedicated awareness programme on the Functioning of Permanent Lok Adalat. The event was held at Rajnagar Gram Panchayat, under the Jubarajnagar RD Block, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from local residents.
The session was led by Advocate Swaroop Chandra Deb, who served as the Resource Person for the programme. In his address, Advocate Deb elaborated on the concept and purpose of Permanent Lok Adalat (PLA)-a forum established under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 to provide pre-litigation settlement in public utility services. He highlighted how PLAs function differently from regular courts by offering quick, cost-effective, and amicable resolutions to disputes, especially in areas such as transport, postal services, telecommunication, and more.
Participants were informed that Permanent Lok Adalats not only reduce the burden on traditional courts but also ensure access to justice for common people, especially in rural and remote areas. Advocate Deb also explained the procedural aspects, eligibility criteria for filing cases, and the binding nature of PLA decisions.
The programme was supported by Para Legal Volunteer Mr. Indrajit Das, who coordinated the event and assisted in community outreach. His efforts in mobilizing the local population were instrumental in making the programme a success.
